Shutdown Project | Cape Jervis Short-term shutdown assignment | 12-22 October

  • High-risk construction and crane activity
  • Marine environment
  • Accommodation and meals provided

SafetyPeople is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor for a short-duration shutdown project at Cape Jervis, SA.

The project involves upgrade works around the SeaLink jetty and vehicle loading infrastructure. It will be a busy, high-risk construction environment involving significant crane and lifting activity, work around water and a workforce of approximately 100 people across two project sites.

We need someone who is comfortable being boots on the ground. You will need to engage confidently with supervisors and contractors, identify issues early and provide practical safety support without slowing the job unnecessarily.

The current schedule is:

  • 12–13 October: Onboarding at Port Adelaide, including systems and IT setup
  • 14–18 October: Cape Jervis, approximately 9.00am–5.00pm, supporting shutdown preparation
  • 19–22 October: Shutdown coverage, 12.00pm–12.00am, 12-hour shifts
  • Potential additional day if works are delayed by weather

What you'll be doing:

During mobilisation and the shutdown, you will provide hands-on HSE support including:

  • Reviewing SWMS and supporting effective implementation in the field
  • Reviewing crane and lifting activities from an HSE perspective
  • Conducting site safety observations and maintaining a visible field presence
  • Supporting site inductions and contractor mobilisation
  • Verifying licences, competencies and high-risk work tickets
  • Working closely with site management, supervisors and contractors
  • Identifying emerging risks and helping resolve issues quickly
  • Supporting safe work around marine infrastructure and water

What we're looking for:

You will need to be an experienced HSE/WHS professional who can step into a high-tempo project and add value immediately.

We are particularly interested in people with:

  • Strong construction or shutdown safety experience
  • Demonstrated exposure to high-risk work and crane/lifting operations
  • Confidence working with large contractor workforces
  • Strong field engagement and practical risk management capability
  • Current relevant safety qualifications and site credentials
  • Availability for the full assignment, including the shutdown shifts

Previous experience with Skytrust would be advantageous but is not essential.

This assignment will suit an Advisor who enjoys being close to the work and is comfortable operating in a fast-moving construction environment where sound judgement and practical communication matter.

Available from 12 October and interested?
