SafetyPeople is partnering with a major Tasmanian logistics operator to appoint an experienced Safety & Environment Business Partner to support and strengthen safety performance across a complex, high-risk operational environment.

This is a hands-on, field-engaged role focused on visible leadership, risk management and practical systems application. While the business operates in logistics and transport, regulatory compliance and Chain of Responsibility governance are managed by a dedicated internal Compliance team. This role works closely with that function but is not a compliance-only position.

The role Reporting to the Head of Safety, you will partner with leaders and frontline teams across five operational sites in Tasmania, embedding strong safety behaviours and supporting continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing visible safety leadership and coaching across operations
  • Partnering with leaders to lift safety capability and accountability
  • Embedding and monitoring critical risk controls
  • Supporting risk and change management activities
  • Leading and participating in incident investigations and post-incident learning
  • Maintaining risk registers, SWMS and permit-to-work processes
  • Supporting contractor and high-risk work management
  • Driving continuous improvement of WHS and environmental systems
  • Producing meaningful safety reports, insights and trend analysis
  • Collaborating with the Compliance team on CoR, NHVR and audit activities
  • Supporting internal and external audits and regulatory engagement
This role balances time in the field with systems oversight and reporting.
About you You are a pragmatic, credible safety professional who can influence behaviour and support leaders in real operational settings.

You will bring:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a WHS or HSE role within high-risk operations
  • Strong experience in incident investigation, including high-consequence events
  • Solid capability in risk management, change management and critical risk controls
  • Experience implementing and improving WHS management systems
  • Confidence engaging with leaders and frontline teams
  • Exposure to logistics or transport environments advantageous, not essential
  • Experience using electronic safety reporting systems and analytics
  • Diploma in Work Health & Safety as a minimum, tertiary qualifications desirable
  • ICAM or equivalent investigation training
  • Nationally accredited WHS Auditor qualification
  • Current driver’s licence
